Short Story

Remote Island

A long time ago in a village, there were stories of a dragon that lived on a nearby Island. All the people of the village were scared of the dragon. So one day the Sarpanch of the village conducted a meeting to decide the fate of the dragon. Raju, a 9-year-old boy volunteered to kill the dragon.

At first, the villagers were apprehensive, but as no one was willing to accompany the boy, Raju decided to complete the mission himself.

On the following day, when the sun shone bright, Raju packed his tools and went sailing to the Island in a boat. Upon reaching the island, Raju saw all the villages on the other side through his binoculars.

He decided to walk on the island in search of the dragon. Finally, he saw the dragon lying flat on the ground. Raju thought that the dragon must be sleeping so he quickly grabbed the dragon with his bare fist. Raju caught the dragon and looked at it: eye to eye. Raju got scared, but he gathered his wits and decided to throttle the dragon's neck. All the villagers on the other side could see the fight and tensions started brewing. However, Raju was calm and composed. He managed to throw the dragon high up in the air and when the dragon came crashing down, he stomped it with his feet. All the villagers jumped with joy realizing that Raju had managed to kill the dragon single-handedly.

Raju then went close to see the dragon and realized it was not a real dragon but a soft toy.

Moral: We should always be brave whether it's a real dragon or just a soft toy.
